Firstborn of the Father, Jehovah, the Word,
Humble with grace like no other.
He who volunteered to be Savior and Lord,
He who is my elder Brother.
Creator of earth and the beauty within,
Yet becoming subject to thus.
His perfect creation, now fallen with men
And He chose to dwell among us.
Child of a virgin, a fallen world's hope,
The author and source of true peace.
The King in a manger, to His subjects unknown,
That He might make Himself known to me.
Carpenter, shaping both wood and our hearts,
Foretold with a sign of a dove
Obedient servant performing His part
And recognized from God above.
He dined with the dirty, chastened the clean,
And called fishers to come and catch men.
He who was greatest did live with the least
And He called the poor man His friend.
Son ever submitting to Father's design,
He fell in a grove to His knees.
Soft words were spoken, "Thy will, God, not mine."
Then only untold agony.
Descending below and then rising above,
The Redeemer lifts us with mercy.
A pris'ner by choice, and filled only with love,
Became advocate for all but He.
The Lion of Judah, the King of the earth,
The only true unblemished Lamb.
Those with false power knew not of His worth,
And they killed the Great I Am.
Without Him was darkness and Creation knew
The absence of her king and light.
The skies mourned along with men not a few
For history's three darkest nights.
His world not forgotten, just absent three days,
His children engraved on His hands.
Fulfiller of prophecy, scripture that says,
"Surely He broke all of death's bands."
Healer of sorrows and conqueror of hell,
He covers us with His wings.
And the world that with Adam long ago fell,
With Emmanuel rises and sings.
He is my Savior, my Brother and Friend
And loves me more than I can know.
My King and my Lord is my Light without end,
Lifting me from my own deepest lows.
He knows me and shows me the best way to live,
Offers salvation without price.
I could never repay, but all praises I'll give
To that Man, only Jesus the Christ.
